Pakistan exported 13,681 metric tons of mangoss to 42 countries of the world, fetching $46.7 million during the past one and a half months of this summer season, according to the official documents available with The Express Tribune. The papers suggested the highest earning from a single country came from the Britain, which imported Pakistani mangoes worth $13.2 million. Quantity wise, the Kazakhistan was the leading country, as it imported 4,467 metric tons from Pakistan. Mango is a prominent horticultural product in Pakistan, where it is regarded as the “king of fruits”. It is the second most cultivated fruit after citrus. Pakistani mangoes are internationally famous for their sweetness, juiciness, nutrition and unique flavour. Overall, the country produces about 1.8 million tons of mangoes, mainly in Sindh and Punjab. The main varieties produced in the country are Sindhri, Chaunsa, Langra, Anwar Ratol, Dusehri, Fajri, Bangan Pali, and Saroli. Normally, the mango season in Pakistan extends for five months from May to September. However, the data available for the last one and a half months, shows mangoes export to 42 countries, including the Britain, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Germany, and Bahrain. According to the data, the exports fetched $13.2 million from Britain, $9.2 million from UAE, $8.95 million from Kazakhstan contributed the highest, $2.2 million from Afghanistan, $1.3 million from Saudi Arabia, $1.7 million from Oman, $1.9 million from Germany and $4.4 million from other countries.
