Eight dead as gunmen attack passenger bus in GB’s Chilas

https://ift.tt/qKC3OQk A passenger bus in Chilas district in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) came under gunfire by unidentified armed men, resulting in the death of eight passengers, Express News reported. The incident occurred in the Hudur area in Chilas on the Karakoram highway. According to Rescue sources, the gunfire ignited fire on the bus, leaving 26 people, including women and children, wounded, with some in critical condition. According to local police, the injured have been transported to the Regional Headquarters Hospital Chilas. The bus, carrying passengers from the Ghizer district, was en route to Rawalpindi when the attackers struck. He announced the formation of a special investigative team to thoroughly examine the incident. The chief minister assured that those involved in the heinous attack would face the full force of the law, and their arrest would be a top priority for the government. The government of Gilgit-Baltistan will cover all expenses related to the medical treatment of the injured, he added. Khan vowed severe punishment for elements working against the country's interests, expressing solidarity with the families of the victims and asserted that the government would leave no stone unturned in bringing the attackers to justice. He emphasised the government's commitment to maintaining peace in G-B, stating that any attempts to sabotage security would not be tolerated. Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information, Imaan Shah, echoed Khan’s sentiments, highlighting the government's resolve to enforce immediate arrests and justice for the culprits. Former president and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari also condemned the incident, calling for stringent penalties for the perpetrators. He extended condolences to the families of the martyrs and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
